Lesbian Visability Day

Today, April 26th, is Lesbian Visability Day and the rest of the week is Lesbian Visability Week. We want to celebrate by publishing some extra posts focusing on the lesbian target group! For a few months now, we have had a project called ”Women in focus” where lesbians are part of the target group.

Much research shows that there are large differences in how women who have sex with women feel about several health factors, that they feel worse than heterosexuals in several areas and that there are differences in how the target group seeks care compared to other groups.

The aim of the project ”Women in focus” is to create a basis for health promotion initiatives for the target group and that the target group will eventually achieve equal health. We will do this by finding out what the target group needs and experiences of healthcare contacts. During the year, this surveys to be available for the target group to respond to.

The project manager will also conduct 10-15 in-depth interviews with people from the target group and hold a focus group with people from the target group. The results of the survey, together with in-depth interviews and focus groups, will be compiled in a report with health promotion interventions for the target group, which will be disseminated to other organizations, testing clinics and health care units.

This project is something we are doing in close collaboration with and for the target group and is the first of its kind. We at RFSL Stockholm are incredibly proud and happy about this project and we look forward to working even more with the target group in the future. If you have ideas or suggestions on what we can do in the future for the target group, or if you have any questions about the project, please feel free to email the project manager at ca*********@************sl.se
