What does LGBTQ competence mean to us?

A common thread through the training day is that you get to reflect on the concept of LGBTQ

competence based on your professional role. What do you need to be able to meet young lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people in a competent and empowering way? Through case discussions and workshops, you will have the opportunity to reflect on the knowledge offered during the lectures and what additional knowledge you or your colleagues may need.

Young LGBTQ people: on identities, health and norms

In this basic lecture, you will learn about different ways of looking at gender identity and sexual orientation. We will also look at factors affecting the health of young LGBTQ people.

Supportive conversations with young LGBTQ people

RFSL Stockholm runs the online support service LGBTQ.se - your online mentor. Isander Freiman will talk about the methods developed in the work with the ”hut” and about common processes and issues young LGBTQ people need support with. Participants are welcome to share their experiences and questions. The session has a special focus on conversation.

Care and support for young transgender people

Access to care and support varies for young trans people depending on their age and identity. In addition, several major changes have taken place in healthcare in recent years. Edward Summanen explains the current situation in Stockholm County and the care and support available to children and young adults. Take the opportunity to ask your questions!

Pegasus - young LGBTQ people and sex for money

A significant proportion of young LGBTQ people have experience of having sex for money.

At the same time, many feel that it is difficult to find someone to talk to about this and many have experienced ignorant treatment from professionals. Based on RFSL Youth's support chat Pegasus and the report ”Sex for X - sex for money among young LGBTQ people 15-25 years”, young people's thoughts, needs and experiences are presented. Part of the lecture also focuses on what you as a professional can do to make visible, meet and support young people.

Trainers

Edward Summanen is a social worker and has previously worked as a counselor at a youth clinic and at Lafa - the unit for sexuality and health within SLL. For the past seven years, Edward has worked as a project manager at RFSL Ungdom. He currently works with activities aimed at young transgender people as well as with the Pegasus project - sex for compensation among young LGBTQ people.

Isander Freiman is a social worker who has worked as a project manager and supervisor in HBTQkojan.se - an online mentoring support for young LGBTQ people. In her previous work at the Discrimination Office in Uppsala, she has led school staff to create equal treatment work that is systematic and anchored in both students, staff and parents. Today, Isander is responsible for training at RFSL Stockholm and has participated in the LGBTQ certification of several municipalities' student health activities.
