RFSL Stockholm Newcomers is looking for volunteers!

English below.

RFSL Newcomers Stockholm is a member group within RFSL Stockholm for LGBTI people who are seeking or have sought asylum or are new to Sweden. We organize many different activities. Our basic activities are social meetings with coffee breaks. We also offer legal advice with LGBTQI competent lawyers, testing of sexually transmitted diseases and workshops with different themes related to sexual health. We have a mental health support group with a counselor, thanks to a grant from AMIF. We now also have professional and creative Swedish lessons combined with choir singing and a language café funded by the Stockholm County Administrative Board.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We are now looking for committed and structured volunteers to help us facilitate different types of activities, events and workshops for Newcomers members. Different experiences and skills are needed for different types of activities. In particular, we are looking for people to run language cafés. Our volunteer positions are not remunerated.

WHAT DO YOU GET?

RFSL Stockholm Newcomers consists of a team of volunteers and responsible coordinators who work together and support each other. We communicate with each other in English and Swedish. There is always a coordinator you can turn to and who is responsible for giving you the support you need within your mission as a volunteer. All volunteers at RFSL Stockholm take a volunteer training course and receive an introduction before starting their assignment.

WHO ARE YOU?

We are looking for someone who:

  • Have experience and interest in being active in the LGBTI community and in human rights, in particular the rights of asylum seekers and new arrivals.
  • Have practical knowledge of organizing meetings, such as preparing refreshments, tidying up, communicating and making sure people are comfortable.
  • Has experience in contributing to the safety, accessibility and courage of spaces for people from different cultural backgrounds and is willing to stand up against racism and lgbtqi phobia from a supportive position and to think outside the white European cis-heteronormative frame.
  • Have a good knowledge of the Swedish language and be able to communicate in easy Swedish in an insightful and pedagogical way (this does not apply to all tasks, but is required for example for the language café).

It is advantageous if you have:

  • Knowledge of several languages.
  • Knowledge of the Swedish labor market and experience of looking for a job in Sweden or working with job seekers in a coaching role.
  • Knowledge of different art forms such as creative writing, music or performance or of different sports activities such as swimming.

HOW DO YOU APPLY?

Send an email to not*****************@************sl.se with your CV (if you have one) and most importantly, answer these three questions:

  1. Who are you? Name, pronouns and age?
  2. Why do you want to volunteer for RFSL Stockholm Newcomers?
  3. What experience and/or knowledge do you have that you think could be useful in our venue and activities? (Describe 3-5 experiences and skills that you think will strengthen you in the mission. These could be interests, activism, jobs, studies, assignments, personal experiences, etc.)

We look forward to your application! We recruit new volunteers on an ongoing basis, based on need.

If you have any questions about the assignment, you are very welcome to email them too!
