RFSL Stockholm's youth organization EGALIA is looking for a PROJECT LEADER, starting March 13.

Who are we?

RFSL Stockholm is part of the Swedish Federation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Rights (RFSL) and is its largest branch. We are located at Sveavägen 59. More information about our activities can be found at www.mdev.rfslstockholm.se.

EGALIA is a leisure activity run by RFSL Stockholm, with the support of the City of Stockholm. It is aimed at young LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer) people aged 13-19. The aim of Egalia is to offer its visitors a safe, leader-led meeting place where they can meet others in similar situations and where they are seen and strengthened in their identities. The activities are coordinated by a paid project manager. Four volunteer leaders work on a rotating schedule, with three of them present at each open session. Egalia is a leisure hangout that has existed for almost 10 years and is open Mondays and Thursdays between 17-20. On average, 35 young people visit the organization every open evening.

Egalia's methods are based on: security, representation and continuity. Safety at Egalia means a safe place that is free from hate crimes, harassment and the fear of them. Egalia offers a safe encounter with the LGBTQ world. Representation is about giving LGBTQ youth the opportunity to have positive LGBTQ role models. Young people should be able to reflect on and identify with the leaders. Continuity is about young people being able to come to a safe place every week and thus feel that there is something stable in life. As a volunteer Egalia leader, your main task is to be a safe and adult role model, mentor and support person for Egalia's visitors.

About the service

The project manager has the main responsibility for Egalia. It is the project manager's task to ensure that the operational plan is followed, that the budget is adhered to and to report and apply for the next operational year.

An extremely important part of the role of project manager at Egalia is to coordinate the volunteer group working with the young people. In addition to the practicalities such as recruiting volunteers and scheduling, it is above all about working with conscious strategies for process management that create a safe framework for those who participate in the activities and that capture and utilize everyone's commitment. The project manager is confident in situations of crisis and can handle acute situations at both individual and group level.

The project leader also works as a leisure leader during some of the open evenings. As a leader, it is partly about being a safe and adult role model, mentor and support person for Egalia's visitors, but also to support the volunteers and be a resource person.

Another important part of the work at Egalia is to work with issues related to anti-racism, class and functionality. Not only with forms of outreach, but also to increase inclusion in the place itself and to actively work with these issues in the ongoing work.

Promotion and dissemination of the project to the outside world is part of the project manager's duties. Upon request, the project manager gives lectures on the activities and receives study visits.

As the activity is based on many different types of tasks, it is necessary for the project manager to organize their work. It is a matter of managing the different and varied tasks to be carried out in parallel with a holistic approach.

All work within the service is in line with RFSL Stockholm Statutes and RFSL's program of principles .

In order to apply for the post you must:

  • Ha experiences of being LGBTQ and being empowered. It is important for Egalia's young people to be able to mirror themselves in adult LGBTQ people and therefore all Egalia leaders are LGBTQ, as is the project manager. At Egalia, you work actively to develop activities based on issues of gender, sexuality and gender identity and must understand how power processes work. How LGBTQ issues are linked to other structures, such as racism, and be able to handle how it affects the behavior and well-being of individuals and groups.
  • Ha good leadership skills. To achieve the objectives of the activity, you lead, organize, motivate and empower others. You coordinate and supervise the volunteer group, follow up activities, manage crises and focus on finding solutions. This involves dealing constructively with adversity and thinking outside the box if necessary. The project manager is clear about boundaries while being sensitive to the complexity of situations. With the purpose of the activity in focus, you guide the volunteer and youth group through dynamic processes.
  • Vara accountability, as it is an important quality for providing support and building good relationships. Being responsible, you have the ability to inspire trust and confidence and to establish an honest and trusting relationship with the volunteer group.
  • Vara prestigious. It is important to be able to let others take credit. As a project manager, you don't put your personal name on everything that is done and you set aside any personal agenda when necessary. You promote the organization as a whole and don't shy away from less prestigious tasks.

It is an advantage if you:

  • Har experience of being/at risk of being a victim of racism. For example, you have experienced discrimination and racism because of your skin color, hair color, country of birth, name, language, religion and/or ethnicity. With these experiences, you can act as a good role model and create opportunities for identification for those of Egalia's visitors who are a minority in the group.
  • Har experiences of living as a trans person. You should be able to act as a role model and build trust among Egalia's visitors when it comes to trans issues. Reflection and trust are important for Egalia's trans-identified youth. You should be able to use your experience to guide and support young people when it comes to trans-related issues.
  • Har experience of growing up or living in a socio-economically deprived area. Egalia works, among other things, to target, capture and create confidence in Egalia among LGBTQ youth in socio-economically disadvantaged areas, which is a work that we want to strengthen and develop. The project manager works with networks and with engaging relevant actors. In dissemination and marketing, you work strategically with social media but also use your own networks and seek new ones, to make Egalia available to more young people in socio-economically disadvantaged areas.
  • Har good interpersonal skills and comfortable speaking in front of a group. This includes speaking to youth groups, for example. It also involves presenting and lecturing about the activities to the public in various forums, such as sitting on panel discussions and receiving study visits.
