In June 2019, the government appointed a parliamentary committee that is currently considering the shape of future Swedish migration policy. On July 23, the parliamentary committee will hold its last meeting before submitting its report.
The proposals in the report will considerably weaken the right to asylum and will hit LGBTI people particularly hard.
RFSL demands
- that Sweden has a humane migration policy,
- that Sweden follows the UNHCR's recommendations in the formulation of Sweden's future migration policy,
- Sweden pursues a migration policy that protects the most exposed and vulnerable groups, such as LGBTI people,
- that Swedish politicians distance themselves from benchmarks and volume targets. People who flee, including LGBTI people, are just people and not volumes and
- taking into account civil society's knowledge of the humane consequences of a restrictive migration policy.
