We were pleased to host an investigative discussion on the topic: ”Do cultural norms around whiteness and racism affect our ability to give and receive consent?” at Stockholm Pride.

For almost a years, our podcast Prata om Det! (”Talk about it”) has been investigating how minority stress and norms impacts LGBTQ people’s ability to give and receive consent. A significant aspect of this project has been applying an intersectional perspective to these vital conversations.

This information initiative is part of RFSL Stockholm’s project ”Talk about It,” funded by The Swedish Gender Equality Agency. It is a broad initiative aimed at reducing the heightened vulnerability of LGBTQI individuals to sexualized violence through early violence prevention efforts.

At this Pride House event, our panel consisting of Ken Gacamugani, Purity Tumukwasibwe ( she/her) and Annelie Spets provided insights into how cultural norms regarding whiteness and racism can influence relationships and behaviours. Afterwards, the panel members were available to engage in discussions at our permanent podcast booth at Pride House.

For those who were not able to attend in person, the investigative discussion will be published as an episode of RFSL Stockholm’s podcast ”Prata om Det!” which is available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who participated and engaged in this critical dialogue. This discussion marks a step forward in our ongoing effort to build a more inclusive and equitable community.
